Kathmandu, also called the city of temples is the capital city of Nepal. Kathmandu city holds a prestigious history of being a prosperous kingdom for more than 2000 years. It became the capital of country in 17th century. The indigenous inhabitants of Kathmandu are Newar people. They are famous for their hard works, business mind and their rich culture.
The only international airport of Nepal is in Kathmandu so all the tourist come to this city before starting their trip in Nepal. There are seven world heritage sites in the city and a lot of other tourist attraction.
On present days Kathmandu is developing itself as a perfect blend of modern metropolis and a prestigious old city with centuries old art and architecture. Kathmandu Valley has 3 cities inside in it Kathmandu Bhaktapur and Patan, all these cities used to be independent kingdom till 17th century after which they were united into modern day Nepal.
Day 1: Morning arrival in Kathmandu international airport. Transfer to hotel and check in. Walking tour of old market area and explore Kathmandu Durbar square and see the living goddess, Kumari. Kathmandu durbar square is a courtyard in the center of city with the old palace and innumerable temples surrounding it. It would be a lovely evening to explore here.
Day 2: Full day sight seeing of Kathmandu. Today you will explore the Buddhist and Hindu religious sites in Kathmandu. Swoyambhunath stupa is situated on the western part of Kathmandu. Situated on the top of small hill, it is one of the best place to have a wonderful view of the city. Considered older than Kathmandu city this place is visited both by Hindus and Buddhist along with thousand of foreigners everyday.
Boudhanath stupa: Considered the most important pilgrimage site for the follower of Tibetan Buddhism, Boudhanath is the tallest stupa in the world. The massive stupa stands as a landmark of the city and is always flocked by thousands of visitor. Colorful souvenir shops, the smell of insence and butter lamp, crowd of people from different part of the world, the colorful flags, tibetan music and the sound of people enchanting their holy scripts makes this place lively and attractive.
Pasupatinath temple: Considered the biggest temple complex in South-Asia, Pasupatinath is considered the most sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus. Beside the main temple there are more than 300 temples in this area. One can see Cremation, the death ritual of Hindu people here.
Patan Durbar square: Situated on the southern part of kathmandu, city of patan also called lalitpur is like an open air museum. The palace of the king of patan and its courtyard is full of beautiful temple. The oldest temple of this city is 5 minutes walk from the square.
Day 3: Drive to the city of Bhaktapur and explore Bhaktapur durbar square; Bhaktapur is the oldest city in Kathmandu valley. It used to be capital of Nepal during the 12th century. The old palace from the 17th century is in the center of city surrounded by lots of temples. We will explore around this lovely city and see a lot of beautiful courtyard and temples from different centuries. This city hasn’t changed much since the old days. The core city doesn’t have modern black topped road. They have roads paved with stones and bricks. One can feel like traveling back into time when walking in this city.
A 20 minutes drive would take us to Changunarayan Temple: The oldest historical temple of Nepal. Its a temple of Lord Vishnu, Hindu god of protection. Built somewhere in the 4th century this temple is not much crowded like other temples in the city. The courtyard of temple is full of small temples and stone idols from 5th century.
After lunch we will drive for almost 1 hour on a lovely road that passes through countryside and forest and we will reach a beautiful hill station called Nagarkot. Situated almost 2400 m above sea level Nagarkot is a perfect place to enjoy panoramic view of Himalayan range including mount Everest. Overnight at Nagarkot
Day 4: Drive to Kathmandu and drop off at International Airport for Final departure.
